Before & After: The Kitchen

I haven't cooked in my kitchen since we got to Omaha. Why? Because since we got here it has looked like this:

And more specifically this:

Um, ew. There has been plaster and wallpaper glue on every surface and because the room is a pass through between the garage/mudroom and living room, it seems to attract crapola. I mean, just look at that picture. Virginia peanuts (thanks Joan!), pliers, gardening sheers, mosquito repellent candles, dirt...would YOU want to eat in there? No, I didn't think so.

We removed a lot of wallpaper in this room. And the wallpaper removed a lot of paint and plaster. We spent a lot of time in this position (with my sidekick, of course):

So after a lot of spackling, sanding, priming and painting we now have this:

Aw, yay! It's not final and the floors suck compared to my gorgeous new living room floors, but a new kitchen falls a distant second to fixing the master bathroom and seeing a chiropractor. Curtains are on my "to buy" list as is a new kitchen table and chairs. But I couldn't resist this cute blue bamboo set even if you do feel like your butt is going to break through the seat should you opt for an extra serving of eggs during breakfast.

Oh, quick shout-out to my sister and brother-in-law who sent me a box of Omaha Steaks burgers, franks and bacon. Ya'll these are NO JOKE. Omaha makes some FINE meat.

Mmmmm...meat.

Okay, back to installing some baseboards. Mr. P is cursing like a sailor so I think I should either offer to help or pour a glass of whiskey, STAT.

  1. The walls look great. I love the picture of you on the floor beside the kitchen table and the white dog dipped in plaster dust. It seems both of you are smiling.
